AUSMAH Unveils Prototype for Next-Generation Autonomous Long-Haul Truck

AUSMAH presented an early prototype of its next-generation long-haul truck at a company event in Steyr, showcasing progress on the autonomous and driver-assistance systems the company has been developing over the past several years.
The prototype builds directly on the remote-operation concept AUSMAH introduced earlier, combining it with updated sensor arrays and improved connectivity designed to let the truck communicate more effectively with surrounding infrastructure. Company engineers said the goal remains keeping a trained driver involved in the loop rather than removing human oversight entirely, prioritizing safety over full autonomy.
“We’re not trying to take the driver out of the equation, we’re trying to make their job safer and less exhausting,” said a lead engineer on the project during the presentation.
Company leadership indicated that a limited pilot program with select logistics partners is expected to follow later in the year, with a broader rollout planned only once the technology has been thoroughly tested under real-world conditions.
